You’ve been watching the Iran story wrong. It’s not primarily about tankers, sanctions, or negotiations.

In this briefing, Susan Kokinda of Promethean Action argues that the current pressure campaign is the visible edge of a much older system—one designed by Henry Kissinger in 1976—and that the system itself is now under public indictment.

Drawing on a July 16, 2026 Chatham House event, Kokinda highlights remarks by Lebanese presidential advisor Jean Aziz and Qatari official Majed al-Ansari that frame half a century of regional turmoil, including Lebanon’s long ordeal and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as consequences of that architecture.

She also examines efforts by Scott Bessent and others to render the Strait of Hormuz strategically irrelevant, and outlines what the Trump administration is building to replace the old order.  Watch the full analysis above.
